How To : Klay Thompson Train Set-Point

Klay Thompson is  one of the three great shooters in NBA. His shooting is type, very stable for hang jump . Klay's right forearm is almost vertical, this will give the ball a better prop, the jumper will good for mid-shot and .

This post I will show you how to train your set-point like Klay Thompson.

First, lets check the pic below:

This is a demonstration, the force from our shooting hand is the most important thing, if you want to take a accurate shot, you must have great one hand release skill. The one hand shot is accord with the straight shooting force theory, one hand shooting can help you to improve you set-point naturelly.

Many players think that we should train with one-motion skill, but actually set-point is the basic for all shooting types, we should train our release skill almost perfect on set-point, and then, we can shoot a ball with one-motion form.

Lets check the pic below:

This is a demostration of one hand shooting training. We can see the movement is smooth, this means Klay Thompson trained this skill too many times.

Lets check the set-point detail:

The right elbow is almost the same height with the right shoulder, only a little higher, this form is still in the low elbow shooting form. You can check the release force, you will find, when you release ball with a low elbow shooting form, when your elbow height just a little higher than your shoulder, your release force is still the same like low elbow shooting form. This height is the critical height.

Now let check the hand detail:

Klay is a hard hand player, just as Michael Jordan, so between his hand and ball , there is some air in it, that is very normal, dont imitate to do this, if you shoot with hard hand type, this feature will appear naturally.

Remember, you should lead your frontal wrist and hand aim to the direction of hoop.

Lets check the feet position:

Two parallel feet, the distance is 11″, two feet jump upward at the same time. We can see the right tiptoe is inward, that is a good feature for a shooter, that means your release force of right arm is correct.

Recently many player asked me to check their shooting forms, almost all players have the problem with straight release force, the point of this post is very important. You can improve your straight release force with this method, and your shot will be more accurate and stable.

At last, lets watch the demonstration of Klay Thompson under the hoop:

Perfect upward jump force and upward release force, no interruption with his left hand, the right hand straight release the ball to the hoop, clean shot.
